Dr. Chuma Osuchukwu - Founder

Dr. Chuma Osuchukwu is a distinguished former diplomat, leadership strategist, executive and business coach with a profound impact on global leadership, business development, and academia. As the Founder and Chair of the Global Leaders and Business Awards (GLBA), he leads an esteemed initiative that celebrates innovation, excellence, and transformation in people’s lives across industries. He is a certified coach and mentor. He utilises his coaching skills in empowering senior executives and business leaders to navigate complex challenges and drive transformational change. His holistic approach helps leaders manage stress, break through mental barriers, and enhance decision-making under pressure. Dr Chuma is also the founder of the GLB Podcast that amplifies the voices of disruptors, innovators, transformers in various industries and profession. 

With a career spanning diplomacy, academia, finance, and the helping profession, Dr. Osuchukwu has held high-profile leadership roles at national and international levels. He served as a Special Aide to two consecutive Honourable Ministers of Science and Technology in Nigeria over a six-year period, where he played a pivotal role in shaping national innovation policies and advancing technological development. 

Notably, he was part of the core team that founded and implemented Nigeria’s Technology Business Incubator (TBI) Programme, a strategic initiative designed to nurture innovation-driven enterprises and support the commercialisation of research and development by inventors. His contributions were instrumental in laying the foundation for a sustainable entrepreneurial ecosystem that continues to drive technological advancements and economic growth in Nigeria.

 

As a diplomat, Dr. Chuma was part of the team that represented Nigeria on bilateral trade missions to key global markets, including India, Indonesia, the Netherlands, Italy, Germany, and Hungary. His role involved facilitating international partnerships, negotiating trade agreements, and fostering foreign investment in critical sectors. His expertise in international relations and strategic negotiations enabled him to strengthen Nigeria’s economic ties with these nations, opening new avenues for trade, industry collaboration, and investment in science and technology infrastructure.

During his diplomatic tenure in London, Dr. Chuma observed the effectiveness of the GOCO (Government-Owned, Contractor-Operated) model, widely utilised in the United Kingdom. Recognising its potential to enhance efficiency and accountability in government-owned enterprises, he authored a seminal paper advocating for Nigeria’s adoption of the GOCO model which was well received by the then Minister of Science and Technology. His work provided a strategic blueprint for leveraging private-sector expertise in the management of public assets, a policy shift that has since influenced Nigeria’s approach to public-private partnerships and institutional reforms.

A respected academic leader, Dr. Chuma has held faculty and leadership positions at multiple universities in the UK, where he has contributed to curriculum development, research, university partnerships and leadership trainings. He has also served as an external examiner at several UK universities, including University of Surrey Business School and Roehampton University, ensuring the highest academic standards in leadership and business education.

Dr. Chuma holds an MBA in Management and two doctoral degrees—one specialising in experiential learning and leadership—and other master level qualifications in coaching and mentoring. As a trained Cognitive Behavioural therapist, he integrates psychological resilience and emotional intelligence into his coaching methodology, helping leaders enhance decision-making, manage stress, and unlock their full potential.

A thought leader in change management, Dr Chuma is the author of the bestselling book The Learning Leader and the 5 Perspectives of Change Leadership (3rd Edition), a seminal work that provides a strategic framework for leading personal and organisational transformation.

On the global stage, Dr. Chuma is a member of the United Nations Business Partnership (UNBP), where he collaborates with international leaders to promote ethical business practices and sustainable leadership. He is also an active member of the International Coaching Federation (ICF), reinforcing his commitment to the highest coaching standards worldwide.
